JIM & JEFF LUFF DRIVING GEM: INTERSECTIONS: Always look ahead at intersections to spot potential hazards early on. Could someone run a red light and create a hazard? Never assume a green light means it's safe to cross an intersection. When approaching an intersection, always do the following:

  1. Recognize the Intersections
  2. Read the Intersection - pay attention to others and understand all hazards you may face
  3. Control your Speed - take your foot off the accelerator and cover your brake
  4. Recognize & Respond - look "Left-Right-Left" for vehicles as you approach the intersection

Also, be sure to check out this National Agenda For Intersection Safety from the Federal Highway Administraton. SMARRT Driving Series Parts 1-5 here.
