The Cadillac In American Pop Music

A new blog from the Detroit Free Press pays homage to the American car manufacturer that has become a frequent subject in pop-singers’ lyrics — the Cadillac. With the latest being the catchy “Royals” from New Zealand’s teenage Lorde, and “White Walls” from Seattle’s Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.


I first noticed just how much the Cadillac brand receives placement in the songs when these two were playing on the car radio on different stations. Pretty good advertisements for the company, and free too.


In the blog, Brian Corbett, Cadillac communications manager for General Motors Co. in Detroit says of the mainstream attention, “Cadillacs don’t go unnoticed. From movie stars to musicians to the well-to-do, it’s always nice when you receive props from the in crowd.”


The blog then lists some of the more famous American pop tunes that have “Cadillac” in the song, ranging from oldies like Vince Taylor’s “Brand New Cadillac” in 1959, to Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” in 1984.
