If you attended this year’s International LCT Show in Las Vegas, then you have probably already heard about the ILCT Show app for iPhones, Androids and Blackberries. If you haven’t heard about the app, then it’s a good thing you’re reading this.

The ILCT Show app does what apps are designed to do: make life easier. Through the app, attendees were able to read about educational sessions, instantly add them to their daily schedule, learn more about exhibitors and where they would be on the exhibit floor, see the latest stream of industry news on the different LCT social networks, and more. Everything an ILCT attendee needed was in the palm of their hands.

And guess what? People who used it will download the next iteration for the 2014 International LCT Show. And people who didn’t use it will probably download it anyway, either after reading this or talking to an operator who used it.

How does this apply to your limo business?

Well, if your company had an app that made people’s lives easier — so easy, in fact, that they couldn’t wait to use it again — you will see your business grow. It’s been established that today’s consumer wants convenience, from the initial point of contact with a company to the final point of sale.

Our industry has seen that evolution through the increased use of Internet reservations. Some companies take reservations through email, text message and even social media. Why? Because that’s how consumers are reaching out to them.

Why not make it easier for a consumer to reach out to you by creating an app, or even a mobile-optimized website? Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are proliferating at a high rate — just look at the many operators installing tablets in their vehicles. Take note of how many of your clients whip out a smartphone or iPad.

Mobile devices are another potential touchpoint between you and your clients. Establish a presence and enhance the client relationship through an app or mobile-optimized website.

Like it or not, Uber has seen a lot of success since its genesis. It’s not through having the latest vehicles or offering the best service or being the cheapest (okay, maybe it’s got a little to do with low rates, but not during rush hour); it’s because it’s easy to use and delivers instant results.

So, limousine operators of the world, do what you do best — clean vehicles, impeccable service, personalized attention — and enhance it all through the power of mobile.
