Does U.S. Auto Industry’s Fate Depend On Lincoln Success?

According to the host of National Public Radio program Planet Money, the success or failure of the Lincoln automotive brand will determine the fate of the entire U.S. auto industry.

The argument is that a successful luxury brand brings in more profit per unit sold, generates domestic manufacturing jobs and innovative technology that would eventually trickle down to an automaker’s entire lineup, all of which contribute to the overall health of an automaker. Therefore, if an American luxury brand, i.e. Lincoln, can successfully compete against top global luxury brands, then the entire U.S. auto industry would be in better shape.
