LCT BLACK BOOK: 100 Largest Fleets

WHO'S WHO/WHAT'S WHAT: To operate and profit from a fleet of comfortable black and white vehicles, along with a growing flock of buses, while providing superior customer service continues to define high industry standards. Although most fleet totals range lower this year, we still received about 200 entrantries, with most operators running a diverse mix of premium, large luxury chauffeured limos, sedans, SUVs, shuttles, vans, limo buses, motorcoaches, and/or classic vehicles. Not one featured operator relies soley on one type of vehicle or service. Even with economic headwinds, industry associations in several metro areas this year helped sustain high standards by beating back Avis WeDriveU -- a clear attempt to diminsh industry quality by bringing unregulated chauffeured compacts, basic minivans, and cab-style vehicles into luxury-oriented chauffeured transportation. (Cab companies were disqualified). As the leading industry business magazine publishing the only such fleets list, LCT recognizes not just the largest fleet companies but operators of all sizes that bring quality chauffeured service to a demanding and choosy market without selling out to compacts and standard vehicles. So far, there's no better or workable industry list out there. See it in the August issue of LCT. -- Martin Romjue, LCT editor
