As with its popularity among American consumers, the SUV only gains stature among chauffeured clients and the operators who serve them.

For 2018, Ford is adding a new SUV model to its limousine and livery line-up: The Expedition. It will complement its longtime cousin, the Lincoln Navigator, a staple of chauffeured luxury fleets that has been redesigned and refined for the 2018 model year.

Both big black SUVs will be on display for the first time to a LCT trade show audience on the exhibit floor Nov. 5 during LCT-NLA Show East in Atlantic City, N.J. (www.lcteast.com).

“Ford Motor Company understands that chauffeur transportation companies have different customer types who prefer different vehicle types for many different situations,” said Craig Hall, fleet marketing manager for Ford Lincoln Limousine & Livery Vehicles. “We added the all-new 2018 Expedition to complement and broaden our already industry leading vehicle portfolio.”

The Expedition provides another opportunity for operators to meet increased and diverse customer demand, boost profit margins, and out-compete transportation network companies (TNCs), Hall said.

“The Expedition is the perfect complement to the all-new 2018 Navigator as it affords operators choices to provide to customers in the large SUV vehicle portfolio,” Hall told LCT. “Some customers might like a large SUV as their transportation vehicle, but not want to pay up or be seen in a ‘higher’ luxury SUV.”
Ford-Lincoln are referring clients to local dealers for pricing.

Adaptable Expedition
The all-new Expedition has a roomy, flexible interior, with seating for up to eight people and their gear, states a Ford press release:

The Expedition is the first full-size utility to feature a sliding second-row seat with a tip-and-slide function, providing easy access to the third row without the need to first remove a child safety seat. The third row offers adults more legroom and reclining seats.

The Expedition’s second- and third-row seats can be quickly folded flat with the push of a button to open up a cargo area wide enough to handle 4x8-foot sheets of plywood and other gear, depending on cargo weight and load distribution, even with the lift gate closed.

The Expedition’s all-new terrain management system lets customers choose among drive modes for optimal vehicle handling in different conditions. This includes normal for around-town driving, sport for more spirited trips, tow/haul for improved towing and hauling performance, eco for enhanced fuel economy, grass/gravel/snow for loose terrain, sand for low traction situations, and mud/rut for uneven surfaces.

SPECIAL OFFER
Ford/Lincoln will donate a new 2018 Ford Expedition Max XLT to an NLA charity effort for the Harold Berkman Memorial Fund. Online bids will be taken until Nov. 2, and then the auction will transition to the NLA booth during LCT-NLA Show East Nov. 5-7, where attendees can place their bids. The live auction finale will be held Monday, Nov. 6, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the LCT People’s Choice Awards and NLA Charity Night at Harrah’s Atlantic City. The highest bid wins and proceeds benefit the Berkman Fund. Ford/Lincoln also will donate $500 to the NLA for every livery vehicle purchased through Dec. 4.

In addition, Expedition offers new connectivity technologies and convenience features, such as:

• Wireless charging: Expedition is Ford’s first vehicle to feature this system, which allows customers to place compatible mobile devices on an integrated charging pad in the front center console. Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 10 devices at once, up to 50 feet away from the vehicle.

• Dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system allows passengers to view their home cable programming on either of two video screens or hand-held devices.

• SYNC 3, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, allows drivers to stay connected on the move SYNC Connect lets owners connect with the vehicle remotely using FordPass to start, lock, unlock, and locate their vehicle from anywhere, while also allowing access to vehicle diagnostic information.

• Power for passengers in every row, with four 12-volt power points, six USB chargers, and a 110-volt power outlet that lets passengers stay charged and connected.

• 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system perfected by acoustic engineers.

• Advanced cargo manager with an adjustable shelf behind the third row lets owners create a customized storage space. Even when parked on a hill, the cargo won’t roll out of the back when the lift gate is opened.

• Panoramic Vista Roof spans two rows.

Navigator Spacious & Sleek
Inside the Navigator, spaciousness comes in all three rows, including storage in each to keep the cabin clean and organized. Like on the Expedition, the Navigator’s advanced cargo management system also offers an adjustable shelf behind the rear seats that allows clients to customize storage. Even with the vehicle parked on an incline, the feature ensures luggage won’t roll out when the lift gate is opened.

“Quiet luxury is both a look and a feeling,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, The Lincoln Motor Company, in a press release. “The all-new Navigator embodies both. The sleek styling, spacious interior, and technology are all designed to make each trip effortless.”

The interior layout is clean and uncluttered, with a simple, soothing ambience.

“When designing the Navigator, we put an emphasis on ultra-luxury touch points,” said David Woodhouse, Lincoln design director, in a press release. “We took everything the client would see and touch, and made sure it would look and feel a little more exuberant, a little more indulgent, and incredibly beautiful.”

The Navigator comes with six USB ports, four 12-volt power outlets, and a 110-volt plug. An available wireless phone charger in the first-row center console media bin eliminates tangled cords. The client experience is further elevated through Lincoln’s new Personal Profile. It uses the key fob to recall individual preferences for adapting seat, mirror, and pedal positions, as well as climate control and entertainment settings.

First Class
• Standard SYNC 3 with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility enables clients to manage audio, phone, navigation, and more from the vehicle touch screen or steering wheel-mounted controls. Second-row passengers have their own audio and climate control, while third-row seats feature power recline capability.

• An available rear-seat entertainment system allows passengers to stream content wirelessly with an Android device to one of the 10-inch adjustable screens mounted on the rear of the front seats. Content also can be accessed through more traditional devices like an SD card, an HDMI cord, or a USB, as well as through SYNC AppLink.

• Each screen can display different content, allowing a personalized entertainment experience for every passenger. Through Lincoln’s agreement with Sling Media, those who own a Slingbox can access their TV channels on the go. The standard Wi-Fi allows for up to 10 mobile devices to be connected.

• Revel II audio with 20 speakers tailored to the interior design and acoustics with three listening modes: stereo, audience, and on-stage.
