If you’re a progressive operator looking to stay out front making new technology work for you, chances are you’re in the market for groundbreaking devices and software. It seems like something fresh is announced quicker than you can say, “But I just bought the latest model!,” and that’s why you should do your research.

Here’s what you can expect to see trending in 2018 and beyond.

Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot

Let’s face it: Sometimes you want to work away from the office or have to because you’re providing transportation for a big event far from home base. Technology today has made this easier than ever. However, not everywhere you may want to work will have free, high-speed Internet available. That’s where mobile WiFi hotspots come into play.

This is a feature available through most wireless phone providers that lets you share your smartphone network connection with other devices so they can access the Internet. Devices connect to your mobile hotspot using their Wi-Fi feature. While they’re connected, you’ll be charged for any data they use per your monthly data plan. To learn more, visit the website of your phone service provider (Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, etc.).

You can also purchase devices that are strictly mobile hotspots. Here are some examples.

We could devote an entire article to the pros and cons of various tablets, from Apple to Android. But for any company calling itself a professional, luxury transportation operation, which you choose doesn’t matter — if you are still greeting clients at the airport with paper signs, you need to select what fits your budget and upgrade as soon as you can.

Greeting signs are only the start; your chauffeurs will be able to watch training videos, check trip information, and much more (assuming you have a mobile hotspot, in-vehicle WiFi, or a cellular plan for your device).

If you’ve got a decent amount to spend or only a handful of trustworthy chauffeurs and vehicles, the regular sized iPad will help you exude class and opulence. However, if you run more than 10 vehicles and want to save money but have a similar effect on your clients, an android tablet should work just as well. Whichever you pick, just be sure to consider replacement costs if they are dropped or broken.

Portable Projector

In the race to get rid of as many cables as possible, portable projectors are the next big step. Light, compact, and portable, these will help you take presentations and training sessions on the go. Pitching your services to a company with one of these in tow will show them you’re serious about staying up to date with the latest and greatest technology and incorporating it into providing professional service.

Document Scanners

It’s time to clean out those dusty old file cabinets and go paperless. Now that cloud storage exists, save some office room and the environment by taking your records, receipts, and invoices and digitizing them. Got thousands of business cards? Scan and organize them in a snap. Any of these will help bring your office documentation process into the 21st century.

Live Chat Capability

People have been conditioned to expect an immediate answer to a question through a company’s social media platform or website. If your company wants to prove its services are worth what clients are paying, it’s time your site reflects that. People would rather text or e-mail a request than pick up the phone, dial in, and speak to someone.

Much like Facebook Messenger allows potential customers to contact you directly through your company’s page, the same technology can be applied to your website.

Tracking Devices

If you’re concerned about lost vehicle keys, company tablets, or smartphones, consider adding a tracking device to them. These products come with a smartphone app that will use GPS to help you find misplaced items (whether it was you or your chauffeur who did the misplacing!).

Interactive Whiteboards

You’ll never have to buy new dry erase markers, deal with cleaning after a planning session, or have to take photos to keep track of your notes again. Interactive whiteboards act as a large touchscreen computer. Fingers or special styluses can be used to write — no mouse, pointers, or ink stains required. The best part? You can save the notes you jot down as a digital file to send to those who missed the meeting or would like a copy for future reference. This device is perfect for chauffeur training sessions that require audience participation and visuals.

If you want to accurately document accidents, onboard cameras are a must have. They help cut time on legal disputes and save on insurance rates. If you want to go above and beyond in the marketing department, consider investing in a 360-degree camera to take photos of the interior of your vehicles to promote on your social media channels and website.
