LCT Summit Generates Heat in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Leading limousine operators and industry veterans from around the world converged at the Ritz Carlton South Beach, June 9-11, to explore the primary topics confronting a changing industry: App-based technology, intense customer service demand, and a rising generation of leaders.

With the NBA Finals kicking off in Miami at the start of the conference, the city was abuzz with energy as local operators juggled transportation for the Miami Heat event while welcoming out-of-town colleagues. Late Spring in South Florida serves as a last climate hurrah before the more humid days of summer with daily monsoon-like thunderstorms.

The trendy, oceanfront Ritz Carlton hotel proved again the perfect place for access to the beach, the famed Art Deco strip, the distinguished Lincoln Road district, and pulsating night clubs on Washington and Collins avenues. About 150 attendees swarmed the beach volleyball games, cocktail making contests, and hosted dinners.

The Summit also offered a deep sea fishing excursion where operators could try their hand at reeling in the biggest catch (if wobbly sea legs hadn’t already betrayed stomachs) and a networking round of golf even after a last minute course change. The speakers featured top-notch experts in technology, with innovator and tech executive Tom Depasquale offering his insights on the latest e-hail mobile apps affecting the industry and Deem Ground executive Amy Harris detailing trends in managed versus unmanaged corporate travel.

The debut of the LCT Fast 40 Group brought together three panels of Gen X and Gen Y company owners and leaders about or under the age of 40 who shared real-life experiences and opinions on how emerging technologies are changing the traditional business model of an operator, and what the industry can do to capitalize on it.

Down Lincoln Road, Tesla Motors hosted a luncheon at its dealership that gave operators the chance to learn about the electric vehicle and take turns sitting inside. The Summit concluded with an inspiring presentation by the Disney Institute on specific approaches to customer service.
