MILAN, Italy -- Since 1987, Belt Limousine has offered premium luxury service to an array of scenic tourist and business destinations throughout Italy. Management has refined its art of limousine service in places it refers to as “cities of art.” General manager Angelo Perut recently shared his insights with LCT on chauffeured service, classical Italian style.

What is unique about chauffeured services in your nation compared to the U.S.?
Here business and leisure cities are a great challenge for chauffeured companies. Drivers should have good skills for taking clients on business road shows and being able to drive them through the history of the incredible cities of art spotted all around our country.

What are key challenges of your service area/region?
We directly operate in two important cities in Italy: Venice and Florence. We have a local garage, fleets and chauffeurs in both cities. In Venice, we follow our clients even after they leave our vehicles and take one of our water taxis in order to provide a complete service to their final destination. From Florence, we manage one of the favorite American holiday destinations, Tuscany, with its main cities and its beautiful scenery. Through a deep net of exclusive partners, we organize and manage transfers all around Italy.

What qualities do you look for in a U.S. affiliate?
Reliable, capable companies worldwide that can satisfy our customers when they travel abroad for business or vacations. We seek simplicity in communications and clear prices that easily can be [relayed] to our customers.

What are your primary business challenges?
Developing two main areas of our business: road shows for business customers and leisure trips to the many cities of art.

What are your top-rented chauffeured vehicles?
We have a wide range of vehicles to satisfy the most demanding clients. Mercedes-Benz is perfect for this. In Italy, we have E-Class sedans for the business clients, the S-Class sedans for all clients, while for special events or grand tours of Italy we have MPV Vianos and deluxe Sprinter Vans. Wi-Fi connection is guaranteed in the vehicles to allow businessmen to be connected.

What types of clients do you typically serve?
Our company has two main types of clients with completely different needs: businessmen who focus on punctuality, reliability of drivers, fast connections and discretion. And leisure customers (couples or families) for whom we reserve all the support of our knowledge on destinations they will be visiting. Our staff of onsite assistants can accompany them [through] the most important steps of their stay. Our operator agents are on call 24/7 and our in-house staff is trained to use our advanced flight and vehicle tracking systems which ensure any flights from any Italian airport are constantly monitored so airport transfers run professionally and are cost effective.

What does your driver/chauffeur training program involve?
We carefully select our staff because they are the source of our success. We have a harmonious team who shares the same vision. The relationship with our drivers started many years ago. They are always ready for every kind of drug or alcohol test, even with the shortest [notice].

What are the future plans for your company?
Our need to spread our service motivates us to test new positions in Italy. But we still keep our fingers crossed for continued success.
