Limousine & Chauffeur continually collects statistical information on the limousine industry. A nationwide operator survey is conducted each year to chart industry growth and trends. We also conduct surveys with quetions about specific subjects several times during the year. The following statistics were taken from these ongoing research projects as well as from other sources as noted.

  1. Number of commercial limousine services in the United States - 6500
  2. Number of commercial limousines in the United States - 41,300
  3. Number of registered luxury limousines in New York City - 2500 (Source: New York Taxi & Limousine Commission)
  4. Number of medallion taxicabs in New York City - 11,787 (Source: New York Taxi & Limousine Commission)
  5. Number of limousines built in past 12 months - 5900
  6. Percentage of trips where chauffeur receives both an automatic tip and a cash tip - 20
  7. Percentage of limousines carrying alcoholic beverages - 60

  10. Percentage of commercial limousines longer than 100 inches - one half of one percent
  11. Percentage of limousines earning more than $100 per hour - 4
  12. Percentage of the commercial limousine industry not located in California or New York - 68
  13. State with fewest limousine services - South Dakota (8)
  14. Percentage of limousine services less than three years old - 50
  15. Percentage of limousine services that have a computerized billing system - 25
  16. Average annual mileage for a stretch limousine - 38,000
  17. Average monthly gross revenue for a stretch limousine - $3838
