Acton Forges Relationship With Connecticut Dealer

When Acton Lincoln Mercury forged a business relationship this spring with Parks Superior, a dealership with more than 50 years of experience in the funeral vehicle industry, it was again evident why this Massachusetts-based company is the top selling livery dealer in the U.S.   

While Acton General Meet Manager bill Cunningham is able to apply his 11 years of livery knowledge to advising customers on choosing the right vehicles, securing the best financing rates and maintaining their fleets, he knew his funeral clients would benefit from the hard-won knowledge that Parks Superior President Michael Parks could provide.

For Parks, the benefits are also many. His customers now have access to an ample supply of livery-package Town Cars and he can steer his new vehicle buyers to Acton’s LimoCare service center, which performs warranty work on Ford products.

“By working together we can both serve our customers better,” Cunningham notes. “We have become an extension of Parks Superior’s showroom, and they help our customers make important buying decisions.”

The livery facility, in Maynard, Mass. includes a 16- vehicle showroom with enough additional room to display 50 more cars.

Having a place in Massachusetts where we know our customers will get the best possible service is a real benefit to us,” agrees Parks, whose Somers, Conn., dealership is about 100 miles from Acton’s facility. “Acton is truly the Lincoln dealer for the professional vehicle world.”

Together, the two dealerships sell and service livery sedans, limousines, funeral vehicles, conversion vans and minibuses - representing Federal Coach, Eagle, LCW, Sayers & Scovill, Miller-Meteor, Superior, Royale Coach Builders and Atlantic Turtle Top.

At a June meeting of the New England Livery Association, which was field at Acton’s facility and hosted by the dealership, Cunningham brought in many of these coachbuilders to display their products, answer questions and offer presentations on the many facets of the vehicles available at Acton.

In addition to Acton’s recent move into professional vehicles, Cunningham and Mike Bedard, Lincoln limousine and livery manager, also discussed the deployment of Lincoln’s new Ballistic Protection Series Town Car, which Acton expects to have in stock shortly. Only a small number of dealerships will sell the BPS, which is armored by Ford at the factory and will enable operators to offer protective services to high profile clients.

Cunningham joined Acton in 1989, a year before the current owners, Coleman Hoyt and David Abatsis, purchased what was a failing dealership. Hoyt and Abatsis had significant customer service and mechanical backgrounds and were able to create a dealership focused on keeping customers coming back.

For Cunningham, building Acton’s fleet department has been an ongoing process of broadening his vehicle selection, adding professionals to his sales and service teams, and establishing important industry alliances.
