A 36-person limousine manufactured by Ultra Kustom Coach in Riverside, CA, was temporarily grounded, docked, and garaged after it was found to be too long for the streets of California. The 66.5-foot white Lincoln Town Car, ordered for an Arab sheik, was found by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to be one and a half feet over the maximum length for combination vehicles. Attached with a fifth-wheel trailer buckled to an 85-inch limousine, the moving night spot was just too much limousine for the road.
Contrary to some news reports, no citations were issued. The CHP stated the Ultra Kustom Coach cooperated immediately. The vehicle was given a special two-day permit by CalTrans allowing it to travel to Riverside for alterations.
The CHP did, however, note several concerns dealing with registration and driver’s license class (the driver had a class B when a class A is needed), and the fact that the plates to the tow and trailing vehicles may have been confused.
Andrew Torres, an Ultra Kustom Coach factory sales representative, confirmed that the $1.8 million stretch was reduced 18 inches by taking three inches from the front and rear bumpers and by reducing the size of the trunk.
The now 65-foot, 14,000-pound bullet-proof, five-axle stretch monster has a standard 4.6 liter engines and gets approximately six to seven miles per gallon in the city and 10-123 miles per gallon on the highway from its two 21-gallon gas tanks.
The title of “longest limousine” as listed in the Guiness Book of World Records is actually another Ultra Kustom Coach creation. However, the 100-foot beast is not street legal. The sheik’s limousine has remained unmolested – with the exception of a gaggle of reporters – since its alterations.
The hot tub, microwave, double bed, three fax machines, three moon roofs, eight full bars, eight TV/VCRs, and eight cellphones were not affected by the “limosuction.”
