Operations

On the Move

Enthused? You bet. Never has the business outlook for limousines been so exciting and good. Nearly every coachbuilder in the country, and I’ve talked to them all, is operating at capacity with many developing new ways to expand production in the near future. Our national economy is on a solid upswing. Detroit is reporting robust sales and profits. Interestingly, big cars are hot and in heavy demand with little thought to fuel availability or price. It’s the same at the auto auctions and at the wholesale level; big cars are moving well and at record prices.

The limousine is moving well, too. Our affluent society is spending its monies on luxuries such as larger television and stereo equipment. Air travel and vacations are up substantially as is the car rental market. Americans have a backlog of discretionary income they are letting loose. Even the van and RV converters who were driven into oblivion by the gas crunch are experiencing unusually large sales.

Limousine coachbuilders and operators are due to share even greater opportunities in the future. Not only is personalized luxury transportation gaining universal acceptance, but there are special marketing areas for new sales within reach during the next year alone. Consider the national conventions to be held by our political parties. There – limousines will be used in such volume that they will be virtually competing on a parallel basis with taxis. Corporate management understands the need for security and convenience for their top brass so every firm on the Fortune 500 should represent a “hit list” for limousine firms.

Travel at the Los Angeles Olympics will be intense in Southern California for more than the planned month of competition. Hertz is gearing up to rent a whopping 5,000 cars a day from their airport facility, alone. The potential this can have for limousine operators enterprising enough to do their homework, is enormous. Many operators already have participating organizations locked up.

It’s a fact, business is good and it’s going to get better. America is on the move and so are its people. The limousine market has a strong acceptance by business and the public. Every member of our industry willing to use good marketing techniques and make the investment by excelling personally and professionally has a golden sales opportunity awaiting him.
