Amid the global economic turmoil, one bright spot in recent years has been the advancing economy of India, home to operations from a growing roster of Western and multi-national firms.

Eco Rent A Car has ridden the surge in global transportation business in the last 15 years, developing many of the professional standards of a high-end U.S. chauffeured transportation company. With only 5% of its business so far coming from U.S. farm-in work, owners Rajesh and Aditya Loomba are looking for U.S. affiliates to handle clients coming from the Indian sub-continent and key Asian nations. Aditya Loomba recently spoke with LCT Magazine:

What is unique about chauffeured services in your nation compared to the U.S.?
A limousine company has to invest a lot in the training to elevate the quality of chauffeurs. High-end chauffeur drive is a very niche business with very few operators.

What are key challenges of your service area/region?
Regular maintenance of cars to keep them in mint condition, recruiting and retaining chauffeurs who are English speaking, and continuously training and upgrading the skill and attitude level of our entire team to exceed customer expectations.

What qualities do you look for in a U.S. affiliate?
Quick responses to requests, a variety of vehicles to meet clients’ budget and capacity, consistent levels of service, a nationwide network, and easy approach to the owner/business head.

What specific rules or procedures do U.S. operators need to be aware of when affiliating with operators in India?
Operators must be fully licensed, vehicles must be comprehensively insured with unlimited third party liability and comprehensive general liability, and an operator must have adequate experience of providing luxury transportation services.

What are your primary business challenges?
To develop the organized sector of the luxury transportation industry in India, as the market is still largely dominated by unlicensed and unorganized operators, nor do they follow labor guidelines prescribed by the government of India.
What are your top-rented chauffeured vehicles?

  • Luxury vehicles: Mercedes E-class, Mercedes S-class, Mercedes Viano (commuter van).
  • Standard and economy vehicles: Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Innova/Fortuner SUV.
  • Coaches: 9-15 seater Toyota/Traveller, 18-22 passenger Tata/Mitsubishi; 35-40 passenger Tata/Volvo coach.

What types of clients do you typically serve?
Middle to top management of corporations (all industries), five-star hotel guests, middle to high-end tourists, government delegations, and business/leisure groups.

How much has your company grown in revenue and fleet size since 2006?
400%, due to robust economic growth, increased corporate traffic, high growth of luxury products, and more disposable incomes.

What does your driver/chauffeur training program involve?
We have recognized our limo drivers as service associates. They are put through an intense program of defensive driving, English phraseology and pronunciation, grooming and etiquette, role plays in airport pickups and drops, common courtesy, and crisis management processes.

What are the future plans for your company?
This year we have expanded and started providing services in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Dubai, South Africa, Malaysia. We plan to further enhance our fleet and service region.
