Long-Term Benefits, Not Fast Money, Are Rewards of Charity Involvement

With costs sky-rocket­ing, charity events and fund-raisers have become an indispensable form of as­sistance in society. Sometimes the goal of an event assumes a global impor­tance. For instance, millions of dollars are raised each year to finance the search for cures for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and AIDS.

Charily events assume many different appearances Golf tournaments, dinners, dances, auctions, carnivals, and concerts are just some of the vehicles used to raise money. How can a limousine company become a beneficial participant?

John Greene, president of Custom Transportation Service Inc. (CTS), in Braintree, MA, says the limousine in­dustry is perfectly suited to establish mutually beneficial relationships with fundraising promoters. Because of the industry's high-profile services, limousine companies participa­tion is often welcome, or sought, in order to increase the aura of importance sur­rounding an event. "You want to tie the limousine business into charily events," says Greene. "Our involvement has been win-win for everyone and it's because of the nature of our business."

Do Not Get Involved Just to Make Money

 It may appear that participation in a charity event or fund-raiser may give nothing in return. According to Sharon Padgett, vice pres­ident of Music Express in Los Angeles, CA, do not become involved if you only want to make a quick profit. It is impor­tant to remember that you are working the event to raise money for them, not yourself. Long-term benefits for your company, not fast money, are the re­wards of charily involvement.

Greene warns there are a great num­ber of charities that do not desire any participation, only donations. Once you are advertised as a participant in a cer­tain charily other charities may attempt to regularly solicit donations.

Don't make charities a one-shot deal. Through genuine involvement, you can begin to build close associations with other participating businesses, celebrities, and community leaders. Restaurants, theaters, and concert venues are likely candidates to be a part of a fundraising event and ideal part­ners for future business promotions and exchanges.

When working with charily events, you should put the long-term goals of your company in the forefront. The re­ward you will see will be the perception of your company in lire eyes of your community. Your participation will not go unnoticed.
