Continued Growth And Interntional Involment Ahead For Classic

In an age where the marketplace is so competitive, Classic Limousine continues to move forward. The company has recently opened an all-new 35,000-square-foot facility. “We are currently physically in the facility and cutting cars,” says Ted Carlson, vice president of Classic Limousine in Fountain Valley, CA. “Out total facility is now over 70,000 square feet.”

The company’s long-term objective is continued growth. “Classic Limousine will sustain its growth in both the private and domestic arenas,” says Carlson. “We do a great deal of international work which is one of the reasons we opened a new plant.”

According to Carlson, over 50 percent of Classic’s business is international. “We ship to over 30 countries,” says Carlson. “Out major international customers are Taiwan and Japan. The Korean market has just opened up for us. The Middle East and mainland China have always been excellent.”

International work involves adherence to various regulations that differ from country to country. “Each of our vehicles must go through a certification process that is specific to the country that purchased the vehicle,” says Carlson. “This process is somewhat simplified in Europe with the common market standards taking place, but each country still has little nuances of their own. Australia is difficult because they will only take cars that are a specific age.”

Prototye Being Developed For The New Cadillac

In 1997, Cadillac will offer the Deville as its new base vehicle for coachbuilders. “The Cadillac Deville with the new Northstar system will be an excellent platform,” says Carlson. “We have no problem with the front-wheel drive technology. General Motors has a great deal of experience with this type of vehicle. It appears with the time, money, and support they are giving to the industry, the car will be just exceptional. We are currently developing a prototype for the new vehicle.”

Classic is both a Lincoln Quality Vehicle Modifier (QVM) and a Cadillac Master Coachbuilder (CMC). The company is also a state department-cleared armoring facility. “We do complete ballistic protection at all levels for heads of state and VIPs around the world,” says Carlson.

Classic also manufactures a custom line of export hearses which are patented vehicles. “I believe part of what distinguishes us from other coachbuilders is the diversity of our products,” says Carlson.
