Jaguar XJ To Be Built By Tata For Indian Market

As the British automaker, wholly owned by India’s Tata Motors, aims to cut costs and compete locally with its BMW and Mercedes rivals, Jaguar Land Rover production in India will expand with the help of its parent, which will begin assembling the XJ flagship.

The Tata Group announced it would begin the saloon production at its plant in Chakan, near Pune, while its main rivals, the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S Class were already locally produced in India, allowing the German brands to set more appealing price tags than import-only XJs.
