SAN DIEGO, Calif. — A recent vehicle sale listing on Craig’s List caught the eye of Autoweek.com blogger Blake Z. Rong. This Miata has a bit of tragedy behind it. It had been an uncle’s beloved project, but he passed on from cancer. For the still-baffled yet slightly chipper seller, the Miata is an unexpected inheritance, like the trope of the haunted mansion in a new town: Spend a night inside this Miata and it’ll be all yours. Fortunately, there’s plenty of room to stretch out. “I absolutely hate to even make this listing, but my family isn’t rich,” the seller pleads, “This car does need a lot of work to make it look nice and I simply cannot afford to do it myself, so I am left to watch it collect dust.”
“One had damage in the front and the other was damage in the back,” the listing states. Read that again. You can almost envision the uncle grinning all those years ago when he stumbled across these two conveniently crashed convertibles. Did they hit each other? Did he hit them himself? Was it all a suspicious setup -- you know, wreck two Miatas, take ‘em both?
