James Limousine Tests Waters With Hyundai Equus

RICHMOND, Va. — As the Lincoln Town Car fades into the history books, the industry continues to wring its hands over which luxury sedan is a worthy successor. For the Hyundai Equus in particular, much concern stems from not knowing whether clients will accept Hyundai as a luxury brand. The best way to find out is to put them in the passenger seat.

Randy Allen, owner of James Limousine Service of Richmond, Va., took delivery of his first Hyundai Equus in mid-April. So far clients have been more than satisfied with what the Equus has to offer.

“We love the vehicle,” Allen said. “Our passengers love it. Our chauffeurs love it. It looks tremendous curbside. I’ve not had any negative comments on any features of the vehicle or the fact that it’s a Hyundai.”

Most important to Allen is that customer comfort is not sacrificed when choosing a new fleet vehicle. With the Equus, Allen believes his company actually has enhanced the experience of the passenger in the rear seat compared to that of the Town Car. “The Equus matches or exceeds the Lincoln Town Car in legroom, headroom, comfortable seating, smooth ride, quiet interior, and rear controls for audio system and climate control.”

Allen said that many of his clients are coming off of international flights and spend two or more hours in a vehicle. More than anything, they want to be able to relax and perhaps go to sleep. The Equus’ reclining seat backs allow for that.

“It’s a very comfortable rear seat and they’ve enjoyed the ride. I think the experience they have in the rear seat is much more important to them than the label on the exterior of the car.”

Allen at first bought one Equus, but said that based on what he’s seen, he’ll be using it to replace the rest of his Town Cars as the industry stalwart ages out of the fleet. Although gas mileage in the Equus has been comparable to the Town Car, he hopes a V6 version will be forthcoming.
