DETROIT — A recent feature in The Detroit News put the spotlight on livery vehicle options that have popped to replace the iconic Lincoln Town Car as the limousine industry’s go-to vehicle. Mentioned in the article were the MKT Town Car, Cadillac XTS, Toyota Avalon and Chrysler 300.
2013 will be another year full of fleet vehicle options for livery operators around the world.
The article said that the MKT “has failed to win over most of the big limousine companies that provide airport transportation and executive car service,” but that the variety of new options is “great news for companies.”
Gary Kessler, CEO of Carey International, said, “We’re really at a watershed event. There isn’t a clear replacement for the Town Car. But the more people who are in this space, the more that is going to raise the bar on vehicles from which we can choose.”
The Cadillac XTS is on Carey’s “short list, but it is not alone.”
Kessler also said that “the ubiquity of the old Lincoln created a ‘false commoditization’ of the livery industry [that] led people to believe that all car services were more or less the same.”
He researched the factors that chauffeured clients cared about most in a vehicle and discovered that, “[w]hile people do care about the image the vehicle they are picked up in conveys, they are more concerned about comfort and in-car technology.”
