DETROIT — Automotive News reports that General Motors has approved the development of a large flagship luxury sedan for Cadillac, which it plans to launch in 2015. The sedan will be rear-wheel drive and will challenge the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S Class.
The report says "GM is already sourcing parts for the car, which is to be built on a new platform dubbed Omega." The styling is expected to draw on the Ciel concept and may come with a choice between a V-6 or V-8 engine.
What does this mean for the Cadillac XTS, which is the luxury automaker's replacement for the DTS and STS sedans? The report says that GM could add a hybrid version of the XTS for the 2014 or 2015 model year.
