2013 Hyundai Equus
COSTA MESA, Calif. — Hyundai’s flagship luxury sedan, the Equus, features several enhancements including an in-house developed eight-speed automatic transmission and a new white stain exterior with saddle interior color combination. The 2013 Hyundai Equus also has been recognized as a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The 2013 Equus sedan’s hood houses Hyundai’s 5.0-liter Tau DOHC V8 engine, which produces 429 horsepower. The engine offers a tuned variable induction system and low-friction diamond-like coatings on piston skirts, rings and tappets. Sophisticated octane sensors allow the powerplant to run on either regular or premium fuel. The engine’s high-pressure direct injection system increases power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The Tau engine is coupled with a Hyundai-developed eight-speed transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual shift capability. The transmission adds two additional ratios to enhance acceleration, shifting smoothness and transmission efficiency by more than 6% compared to the previous six-speed. The Tau V8 engine family made the prestigious Ward’s Ten Best Engines list in 2011.
Among other premium vehicle technologies, the 2013 Equus boasts an electronically-controlled air suspension that offers normal and sport modes.
