DEARBORN, Mich. — Automotive Fleet reports that Ford plans to offer Auto Start-Stop technology on the new 2013 Ford Fusion 1.6 liter EcoBoost at a retail price of $295. The automaker said the option pays for itself by reducing fuel expenses, producing an average of 3.5% better fuel economy. Depending on driving habits and conditions, fuel economy can improve up to 10%.

Drivers in urban areas and heavy city traffic will benefit the most because the system saves fuel when the car is idling. Ford Fusion marketing manager Samantha Hoyt said she expects the average Fusion driver with the 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine and Auto Start-Stop system to save about $1,100 more than other midsize sedan owners during five years of driving.
