SECAUCUS, N.J. — A bulk fleet purchase of 50 Mercedes-Benz sedans by EmpireCLS will help reduce the company’s carbon footprint while maintaining the level of service and luxury amenities it provides to its customers.

“You no longer have to sacrifice luxury to do your part,” said EmpireCLS CEO David Seelinger in a release. “This month we’ve started replacing our [Mercedes-Benz] S550s with 50 of the more environmentally friendly Mercedes S350s.”

The Mercedes-Benz S350 is a BlueTec diesel vehicle that reduces the amount of NOx released into the atmosphere. It is the only full-sized luxury sedan offered with a diesel engine in the U.S. Phasing out the S550 sedans for the new green vehicles was not a difficult choice for the company; EmpireCLS already replaces the air in fleet vehicle tires with nitrogen gas and offers complimentary quarterly and annual reporting on carbon emissions to its clients.

“As a leader in the luxury ground transportation business, we set the tone for what other companies are doing,” Seelinger said. He told LCT that the deal was done through Prestige Mercedes Benz of Paramus, N.J. and the Mercedes Corporate Fleet department. The cars will be used for operations on both coasts. EmpireCLS bases its West Coast operations in Los Angeles.

EmpireCLS, the largest chauffeured transportation company in the U.S., is a member of Green Ride Global, which helps the company manage its environmental impact through participation in environmental sustainability programs. The company is already on target to reduce Green House Gas emissions 20% below 2008 levels by 2016 and is looking for new ways to make a positive impact on the environment.

Headquartered in Secaucus, N.J., EmpireCLS operates in more than 700 cities around the world. For more information, please visit www.EmpireCLS.com and follow them on Twitter @EmpireCLS.
