National Vehicle Dealer Gains GM Limo Models

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Towne Livery officially opened its General Motors doors today, adding Cadillac and Chevrolet chauffeured vehicles to its growing menu of OEM brands available to operators.

Towne Livery’s owner, Towne Auto Group, of Orchard Park, N.Y., closed a deal recently to acquire the Steve Baldo Chevrolet Buick Cadillac dealership in North Collins, about 18 miles away. The dealership, which remains in its location with the same employees, has been rebranded as Towne Chevrolet Buick Cadillac.

Altogether, Towne Livery will now sell chauffeured luxury vehicles from eight major OEM brands: Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Lincoln, Ford, BMW, Hyundai and Maserati. This marks the first time that Towne Auto Group is selling Cadillacs, Chevrolets and Buicks.

For Towne Auto Group commercial sales manager David Bastian, the union of two established dealerships in the Buffalo region brings a homecoming of sorts.

“My career of selling livery vehicles is coming around full circle,” Bastian said. “A lot of people who work there are the same people I worked with eight years ago.”

The Towne Auto Group, which started in 1969, is owned by President Frank Downing Jr. and his brother, Vice President David Downing. They had done business for years with Steve Baldo, who started his dealership in 1990, and all become friends. Baldo will continue working for the Towne Auto Group.

Bastian started selling livery vehicles in 1992 for the former Ed Taylor Lincoln-Mercury in Amherst, which was bought by Baldo in 2002. He sold GM, Ford and Lincoln vehicles for Baldo nationwide for five years to the ground transportation industry. In 2007 Baldo’s Lincoln store closed due to market consolidation, bringing Bastian to Towne Auto.

For operators, Towne now provides a complete array of in-house services, including sales and warranties, maintenance/repairs, parts and body shop. “This is now a one-stop shop owned by one family,” Bastian said. The vehicles are not sold through partnerships. These are franchises all under the one branded family name.”

Bastian already has received orders for Chevrolet Suburban SUVs and Cadillac XTS livery sedans from among his nationwide roster of operator clients.
