Allied Specialty Vehicles Forges Green Fuel Partnerships

Posted on April 27, 2015

ORLANDO, Fla. — Allied Specialty Vehicles (ASV), a leading manufacturer of motor vehicles for commercial, fire and emergency and recreation markets, recently announced exclusive partnerships with CleanFUEL USA, an industry leader in propane autogas technology, and Westport, a global leader in alternative fuel, low-emission transportation technologies.

Under these new partnership, CleanFUEL USA will provide products and services to expand ASV’s line of alternative fuel vehicles, namely propane autogas, and Westport will expand the availability of compressed natural gas (CNG) currently offered on school buses, to the company’s commercial bus, emergency and other vehicle products.

The partnership agreement calls for CleanFUEL USA’s propane autogas systems currently installed by third party upfitters to be transitioned to ASV factory certified installations. Tim Sullivan, ASV president and CEO says this change will not only offer customers a full OEM warranty, but it will increase installation efficiency and improve overall quality control. The two companies will also work together to develop customer service centers that will offer spare parts and maintenance services for a full suite of CleanFUEL USA propane autogas systems for multiple ASV product lines and their customers.

Westport is a CNG Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM), and designed its system to meet Ford’s original equipment manufacturing (OEM) standards. Westport also conducts rigorous, OEM approved safety testing including extensive simulations and physical crash testing that meets or exceeds OEM and U.S. federal safety standards. “With the distinct price benefits of natural gas, we’re excited to offer a CNG powered product across multiple ASV vehicle platforms,” said Paul Shaffer, Westport Dallas vice president.

Sullivan said of the new partnerships, “Our customers are demanding environmentally friendly vehicles powered by clean alternative fuel systems that reduce carbon emissions. The ability to expand that to other ASV vehicle lines not only demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability but it also allows us to offer the first factory-certified OEM solution for one-stop installations of alternative fuel systems.”
