What’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys?

A limousine full of those crazy creatures, according to David and Bitsy Duggins, an attorney from New Orleans and his interior decorating wife.

For her job, Bitsy needed a large vehicle transport her various samples. She tired of driving a station wagon and decided to try a limousine. She loved it.

When two local artists who had previously painted an airplane approached the Duggins and asked if they could create a moving mural, the couple let them have a free hand. “Monkeyshines” is the result.

The 1983 Cadillac Armburster/Stageway Manhattan II features brightly colored monkeys, a bunch of tailgate “bananas” and a monkeyhead hood ornament that was cast from the top of an antique walking cane.

When Bitsy isn’t chauffeuring around chairs and well paper samples, the Duggins utilize the car for parties. Needless to say, they are quite well known around New Orleans.

Monkeyshines has appeared on television and was invited by the Houston international Festival to participate in its third annual parade. If will be featured in an upcoming movie on art cars due out the end of this year.

Chalky White was the personal chauffeur of actress Mae West during some of her early years as a screen siren. Chalky was one of a select corps of personal chauffeurs who drove stars around Hollywood in large custom Cadillac, Packard and Pierce Arrow limousines.

At one point during her career, Miss West received a series of disturbing threats that caused concern for her safety. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office sprang into action by disguising police operative Harry Dean as the voluptuous. West and stationing police officer Jack Southard on the floor in the passenger compartment of the limousine.

Hollywood archives do not reveal whether this ruse brought justice down upon any evildoer, but Officer Dean set a new standard for undercover fashion as authorities managed to protect Miss West from harm.
