PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- The low-cost industry newcomer has proven a practical sedan alternative to the former Lincoln Town Car at Sunshine Shuttle & Limousine, one of the largest luxury ground transportation companies in northwest Florida.

Customers gave the $32,000 sedan a good response, Sunshine owner and founder John Finch says. “It sort of surprised me.

Customers who’ve been in Town Cars want the Avalon. The drivers also want to choose the Avalon instead of the Town Car. It has easy handling and it’s more efficient.”

At a cost of about $32,000, the Avalon can help the bottom line with its higher fuel economy and lower overhead. By comparison, a 2013 Lincoln MKT Town Car costs about $43,000. So far, Sunshine has four Toyota Avalon sedans in its fleet of 44 chauffeured vehicles, minibuses and motorcoaches.

“I’m looking to increase them going forward. I was real passive on it until I listened to the customer,” says Finch, a former apparel company CEO and fashion model who spent many years traveling for business. “You get everything and more out of an Avalon than you would anything else.”

When running vehicles hard in day to day chauffeured service, operators need to carefully evaluate their ROI, Finch says. “You have to be practical. What are you getting back from it?”
