NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — There’s no denying the plenty of dispatching apps on the market, given the advances of technology. This is the age of “I want it at the tap of a button,” after all.
But some people have issues adjusting to this technology. Nathan Lee, co-founder of Samsride, saw a need for a program that could be used by both the technologically confident users as well as those needing some hand holding.
Now that Uber has made its mark on Millennials who generally prefer less human interaction than older generations, ground transportation companies are missing out on their business simply because they can’t keep up with their desired way of reserving rides. Samsride founders Lee and Sam Xia

“We wanted to build a system that could bridge the learning gap from the old systems and the new,” Lee said. “We combined technology with the option of having a physical dispatcher. You can go full autopilot where the system is doing everything for you, or if you actually want to physically go in and organize something, you’re able to do so with the click of a mouse.”
Customize and Share
The original app took about five years to build, but new features are constantly being added. Serving 45 different companies, Samsride is fully customizable and allows customers to use their own logo, branding and URL.
“What we found when we started licensing our platform was a limousine company in a certain city or state may have a different way of doing business from another city and state, as well as different regulations and rules they have to follow,” Lee said. “You really need a technology that understands what the company is trying to accomplish.”
Samsride can have your completely personalized app ready for you in less than 30 days. Depending on the complexity of the features you desire, such as allowing riders to pick and choose what kind of vehicle they want, fine tuning might take about a month or two. As more people pay for new features to be created, they can easily be shared with other companies who want them, reducing this wait time.
Don’t Get Left Behind
Potential clients are starting to move away from web booking and calling people. There are on demand apps for everything from pizza to massages. Customers want things done faster and more efficiently, and they want to be able to be able to track the progress of their purchases. “The days of trying to figure out if the ride you ordered is going to show up to your house are long gone,” Lee says.
Companies that have operated without this kind of technology are forced to overcome a huge learning curve. That is why you want to work with an app that isn’t cheap or buggy. “Millennials don’t have time to deal with something that doesn’t work. They don’t want to wait for a company to figure out what they need,” Lee says.
As Uber and Lyft start to challenge not only the transportation industry, but others such as food service with the new UberEATS, it’s vital other companies keep up and have the ability to level the playing field.
“We are trying to tell people ‘don’t go out and buy an app that will end up crashing, and don’t think you can build one with ease.’ Call us and we’ll work with you to figure out,” Lee says. Their system has yet to go down and they ensure clients they will guide them through every aspect of app.
Pricing and Feedback
Samsride offers multiple packages to choose from. The first, for $199 per month, gets you the web booker, driver app, and dispatching system and covers up to 10 drivers. The $399 per month deal allows for 20 drivers, and includes the above as well as the passenger app. For $599 per month you will receive everything listed as well as a customized URL and are covered for up to 30 drivers. It will cost an additional $20 per driver if you want to add more.
So far, the feedback has been positive. The system is growing, and Lee and Xia make sure to listen to what clients have to say and adjust the app accordingly. “It’s almost like getting five or six people from each state in a room together and asking ‘what is it that you need or like about the system?’ That input is crucial to our growth and to building a superior system,” Lee says.
While other dispatching companies aren’t as willing to listen to their customers or change their system in regards to their input, Lee believes the process isn’t one size fits all.
“They’ve built a system, and they say this is how we feel the system should work, and if your business can’t work within this system then you are running your business wrong. We say, ‘we’ve built this system, and we think we have everything you need, but if there is something that we don’t have or if there is something you need changed for it to better fit around your business, we’re open to doing that for you.”
