How Does Uber Work?

Posted on June 18, 2013

TORRANCE, Calif. — The LCT staff recently shot LCT editor Martin Romjue doing a walkthrough video on how to use the Uber App to request a car. The video was shot as a demo for the Big Picture Tech Panel held on Monday, June 10 at the LCT Leadership Summit in Miami Beach, Fla. The video shows Uber’s straightforward and easy-to-use touch-screen functions for calling the closest available vehicle to your location.

In the video you’ll see how users can option for UberX, which brings lower budget type vehicles, as well as the traditional black car and the SUV option as well. In each case, the closest available cars are shown in real time on the map relative to your location, and the direction of the cars even change as they maneuver around the city.

The vehicle that arrives is a GMC Yukon Denali, and though the driver did not want to be on camera, he did say that he works for Uber for full time and that even though a regular black car was requested, the closest car will often be sent, which in this case was the SUV.

You can read more about it on the LCT Blog, First Time Using Uber on A Vivid LCT Video.
