Uber Goes Global With Soft Launch In London

Posted on June 21, 2012

LONDON — On the heels of its San Diego launch¸ Uber, the revolutionary car service smartphone app that is threatening to disrupt the luxury ground transportation industry, has recently launched its service in London. The launch is at an early stage, reports TechCrunch, with “secret Ubers prowling the roads, and the company still in research mode to figure out the best way of tackling the city.”

Richard Farleigh (R) is a judge on the reality TV show Dragon’s Den, which is a show about entrepreneurs competing for investments from the show's panel. Farleigh is an Australian private investor and is currently on a list of the 200 wealthiest Australians.

The soft launch comes in time to begin preparing for the summer tourist rush and the Summer Olympics. Uber has selected a pair of VIPs as its first two riders. Passenger number one, was Richard Farleigh, a judge on reality TV show Dragon’s Den. The second passenger was David Clark, director of astronaut relations at Virgin Galactic.

TechCrunch reports that the full rollout of Uber in London won’t be happening for a couple of weeks.
