New York Limo Group Opposes Proposed TNC Law

Posted on June 3, 2015

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Local legislators and business leaders are pushing a bill in the waning days of the legislative session that would allow taxi alternatives such as Uber and Lyft to operate in the Capital Region and beyond.

LBTOUNY opposition memo here: "TNCs are only a new player in an old profession. Transportation network companies are taxicab companies and we believe they should be held to the same standard. LBTOUNY strongly opposes S4280-A/A6090-A, as it would enshrine into law that TNCs are not subject to the same rules and standards as the companies they compete with."

UPDATE: Two influential New York state senators, Sen. John A. DeFrancisco, R-50th District, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and Sen. Marc Panepinto, D-60th District, who were original sponsors of the bill, have removed their names from the legislation.
