The NATIONAL LIMOUSINE ASSOCIATION is holding two free webinars exclusive to its members on the topic of labor law compliance on Wednesdays March 23 and March 30.
• “Independent Contractor Laws for the Chauffeured Transportation Industry” will be presented on Wednesday March 23 at 2 p.m. EDT.
• “Wage Hour Laws for the Chauffeured Transportation Industry” will be presented on Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m. EDT.
No other issues have caused as much trouble for operators in recent years than how the federal government is trying to complicate compliance for companies that use independent contractor/1099 workers and the growth in wage-related lawsuits against limousine companies spurred by trial lawyers.
Both hour-long presentations will be delivered by Keller and Heckman LLP partner and labor and employment law attorney Manesh Rath.
In the March 23 webinar “Independent Contractor Laws for the Chauffeured Transportation Industry,” attendees will gain a better understanding of the laws surrounding the use of independent contractors in the chauffeured transportation industry.
The presentation will cover:
1) Understanding the importance of properly classifying workers;
2) Learning about the critical factors that agencies and courts will examine in deciding whether workers are truly independent contractors; and
3) Examining recent court decisions where employers’ designations of workers as independent have been challenged.
In the March 30 webinar “Wage Hour Laws for the Chauffeured Transportation Industry,” attendees will learn about the critical wage hour law issues that apply to employers in the chauffeured transportation industry. The presentation will cover:
1) Overtime exemptions that may or may not apply to chauffeured transportation operators;
2) Matters involving compensable time and non-work time, such as breaks, preliminary work, deadheading, and commuting; and
3) Compensation methods in light of wage and hour recordkeeping requirements.
