On January 25, 1985, representatives of 35 limousine companies and local limousine associations from around the nation met in Washington, DC, and founded the National Limousine Association (NLA). The goals of this non-profit trade association are to represent and further the national interests of limousine operators.
The NLS plans to offer its members national promotion and publicity; specially designed group insurance; information on new operating and advertising methods; and a united voice for communicating with manufacturers and suppliers. It will provide a strong lobbying arm on legislation affecting the industry, such as the proposed tax reform that would eliminate entertainment and travel expense deductions used by many limousine customers. The NLA will also support regional associations on local issues, and will offer non-voting memberships to manufacturers and suppliers who support the industry.
in order to attract a broad membership, a temporary presidential committee, made up of three members from various parts of the country, was chosen. The committee includes Attila Fenyes, Royal Coach Livery (Encino, CA), Alan B. Fisher, London Livery Ltd. (New Orleans), and Cris Portugal, Cris Limousine Service (Washington, DC).
Jeffrey L. Berger,Esq., of Finley, Jumble, Wagner, Heine, Underberg, Manley & Casey, (Washington, DC) was retained as General Counsel. Berger, who has extensive experience representing limousine operators, stressed that "The NLA is committed to providing an equal voice for every operator and a united voice for the industry."
