CA Operator Helps Collect Cell Phones For Soldiers

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Cell Phones for Soldiers and Exclusive Sedan Service are calling on Americans to support the more than 150,000 troops serving overseas by donating unused cell phones to the troops so they can call their families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.

Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect more than 50,000 cell phones this year to help keep troops connected with their families.

“Over the past few years, we have been amazed by the generosity of others. But, we have also seen the need to support our troops continue”, says Brittany Bergquist, Cell Phones for Soldiers co-founder. “It is easy for Americans to make a small sacrifice of support by donating their unused cell phones, and providing families with a much-needed connection to their loved ones overseas.”

Brandan Stein, the chief operator officer of Exclusive, which he runs with father, Ron Stein, said, “Cell phones are critical to every limousine company’s operations. Every one of our chauffeurs must have a cell phone to communicate with the office. I would bet that Exclusive Sedan goes through hundreds of phones a year as we upgrade and replace broken units. And our passengers are also very dependent on their cell phones. We are letting all our corporate customers know that they can simply give their chauffeur a cell phone and we will get it to Cell Phones for Soldiers.”

In addition, Exclusive Sedan will serve as a collection point for local residents to support the collection drive by dropping off their phones at Exclusive Sedan Headquarters office at: 12580 Saticoy Street North Hollywood, CA, 91605. Drop-off hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are proud to support our men and women serving oversees, and to contribute to a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers,” Brandan Stein said.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Berquist from Norwell, MA, with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised $1 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.

“We are continuously overwhelmed by enthusiastic support of thousands of Americans who have helped our troops speak with their loved ones”, says the teens’ father, Bob Bergquist. “However the need for support keeps growing as more soldiers are sent to the Middle East or are asked to serve extended tours of duty."

Through increased fundraising efforts, the Bergquist family hopes to raise more than $9 million in the next five years to fund new programs, such as providing video phones and prepaid service to allow soldiers abroad to see their families on a regular basis.
