Ron Sorci Elected NLA President

LAS VEGAS — Ron Sorci, the CFO of Miami-based Aventura Worldwide and vice president and CFO of A-1 Luxury Coach, was installed as 2009 president of the National Limousine Association on Sunday during a quarterly meeting of the NLA board.

The board met at the Palazzo Resort and Casino on the day before the 2009 International LCT Show Jan. 26-28.

Sorci succeeds 2008 president Richard Kane, owner and CEO of Washington, D.C.-based International Limousine Service and a 2009 LCT Operator of the Year. Kane declined to run for re-election as president, citing the need for more time for family obligations. Kane was installed in the less demanding post of first vice president for the 2009 term.

Also, elected to offices were: Joe Cirruzzo Sr., owner of New York-based A Elegant/ELS Transportation Network as second vice president; Bob Beutel, CEO of All-Star Transportation Inc. in Royal Oak, Mich, as treasurer; and Barbara Curtis, owner of Two-Step Limousine Inc. of Littleton, Col., as secretary.

The board installed several new directors representing members from several districts around the nation. The NLA reported a record turnout of voting members for its 2009 board elections. It also had the largest field of candidates for open board position seats in the 29-year history of the association.

At its general membership meeting on Monday, the NLA reported it has 2,481 members as of Dec. 31, 2008, up from 2,393 on Dec. 31, 2007. The 2008 figure is a 25.7% increase compared to Dec. 31, 2006, and a 43.2% increase compared to Dec. 31, 2005.

Total NLA assets as of Dec. 31, 2008 were $1,191,150.
