GCLA Poker Event Brings Out The Best In Industry Support

Posted on November 19, 2014 by

TORRANCE, Calif. — Operators from all around the state of California came to the SoCal Penske Cadillac dealership in Torrance on Nov. 15 to attend the fourth annual GCLA Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament and fundraiser.

The Poker Tournament helps raise money for the Greater California Livery Association’s (GCLA) lobbying efforts. The tournament also hosted a sponsored toy drive for donations to the Knights of Pythias Youth Camp for inner city kids. The event saw an increased turnout from last year, which was held at the same location.

The tournament was held on the floor of the dealership, next to exhibit vehicles such as the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, and Cadillac XTS. A large screen projected a slide show of industry pictures, and a DJ kept the night moving with music.

Phil Hartz, owner of SoCal Penske Cadillac, said the event helps operators come together and have a little fun in the name of a good cause. Kevin Illingsworth, 1st vice president of the GCLA, praised the turnout and show of support for the GCLA.

The tournament saw returning finalists Olga Spirina of Air One Limo in San Jose, and James Buck, the champion from last year. The gaming got underway at 8 p.m. and by 11 p.m., the tournament was down to just two, with David Kinney of API Limousine in Sacramento winning the game. Kinney won a brand new 55-inch JVC TV as first prize.

There were also raffle prizes and packages donated from operators for the silent auction, with sponsors including SB Chauffeuring and Tours, Chosen Payments, Classique Limousine, and First Class Customs.

The poker tournament leads into the annual GCLA holiday party Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Proud Bird Restaurant near LAX. Information: www.GLCA.org.
