What Has Happened to the 1995 Operators of the Year?

Limousine & Chauffeur Magazine checked in with the 1995 Operators of the Year and spoke with them about how the award has benefited their operations. They also revealed some of their secrets on how they achieved such lofty status and offered some advice on how other operators can achieve similar results.

Butch Henke of Squire Limousine in San Francisco, CA, who won in the large category, says that since receiving the award his company has been featured in articles in The San Mateo Times, The San Jose Mercury News, and The San Francisco Business Times.

He has appeared on San Francisco’s Channel 4 local news and also did a local radio interview. “Right after all the press came out, we probably saw a 25 percent jump in our business,” says Henke.

Phil Khalil of Action Limousines in Houston, TX, won in the medium category. He says there has been a great community response since receiving the award. He also notes they have received letters of congratulations from as far away as Hawaii and London. “Our number one priority is quality service,” says Khalil. “The award was like getting a ‘Seal of Approval’ for our work.”

The small category was won by Jon Harrer of VIP Limousine Inc. in Roswell, GA. His company received press coverage in various publications including The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, The Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Small Business Monthly.

According to Harrer, the recognition his company has received from larger corporations was a lot more than he anticipated. “The award has definitely made a difference in our operation,” he says. Harrer views the award as a stepping stone toward achieving an even higher level of company performance.

  All three emphasize that they could not have achieved such an accomplishment without their employees and customers, knowing that the award is not an individual honor, but a company achievement. Companies with aspirations of winning the Operator of the Year award should look closely at what has made these past winners successful.
