Limousine Industry Loses Key Figure

Posted on May 1, 1995 by LCT staff

A livery industry crusader and entrepreneur, Theodore Wisniewski, 58, of Teddy’s Transportation System in Norwalk, CT, died Jan. 29 after a brief illness.

Wisniewski, founding president of the Limousine Operators of Connecticut (LOC) and former secretary to the National Limousine Association (NLA), helped expose a group of gypsy operators in 1988 by formulating a sting operation at Bridgeport’s Sikorsky Airport, in which the ConnDOT, the DMV, and city and state police worked together to apprehend five illegal operators.

He subsequently convinced the LOC to lobby for changes in laws involving the industry, resulting in an act that increased ConnDOT inspection funds, increased maximum fines from $50 to $2,000, and gave them more enforcement powers.

Limousine & Chauffeur magazine named Wisniewski one of the “Ten Most Significant People of the Decade” in its 10th anniversary issue.

He is survived by his wife Shelley, sons Charles, 32, and Teddy, 25, and daughter Linda.
