Javaid Chaudhry of New York Global Limousine has chosen to invest in Mercedes-Benz sedans and crossovers to provide clients with exceptional luxury service.

Javaid Chaudhry began his career in the industry as a chauffeur for Carey Limousine NY, where he worked for six years before starting his company with a partner in March 2003.

He gained several major corporate accounts and grew his fleet to 24 cars, but had to downsize to 10 cars in 2007 due to the financial crisis. “I have learned to avoid depending on one major account, because in 2007 and 2008 I lost most of my business,” Chaudhry says.

Going independent
In 2008, Chaudhry split with his business partner and founded his own company, New York Global (NYG) Limousine. He started with a single 2009 Mercedes-Benz S550 and grew to 12 vehicles, hitting $1 million of annual revenue in less than three years.

He credits his success to several factors. “I have never missed any LCT conventions and industry shows, I have a brand new fleet, a great team which I have developed over the years, successful advertising, and last but not least, Boston Coach, which helped me to grow and is a great company to work with,” he says.

Chaudhry takes pride in his team’s hard work, dedication, and excellent service, all of which contributed to the company’s growth due to word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients. NYG Limo’s clients don’t just receive confirmations, but also re-confirmations and re-re-confirmations.

Fiji or Evian?
“My clients know exactly where they will find their smiling chauffeur at each and every airport terminal,” he says. “If for any reason the chauffeur has to circle around, we notify the clients immediately. We provide clients with cold Fiji or Evian water, the New York Times or Wall Street Journal, and we make sure they don’t forget anything in the vehicle, not even a hairpin.”  After each trip, chauffeurs dust off the mats and meticulously comb the backseat to remove any hair or lint.

NYG Limo’s chauffeurs are well-groomed and formally dressed, and its fleet consists of new vehicles that are kept spotless and shiny.

Chaudhry recommends equipping vehicles with car phone chargers, at least for the iPhone and Blackberry. He also provides Wi-Fi in most of his cars. First aid kits, fire extinguishers and GPS are mandatory in all of NYG’s vehicles because client safety is first and foremost on his list of priorities.

Customers matter most
Chaudhry loves the non-stop excitement of the business. He says he can’t fully explain the satisfaction he derives from providing excellent service to his clients, especially when they praise the service or request a chauffeur.
“If you want to do this business, do it right,” he says. “Everybody has new vehicles and wears suits, but you can differentiate yourself from others by knowing and fulfilling your customers’ needs and preferences. Be in this business only if you love it.”

A Mercedes Man

With the retirement of the Lincoln Town Car, Chaudhry says there is no doubt the industry and customers will miss the longtime luxury sedan, and he doesn’t see any immediate substitute. “I am replacing it with the Mercedes-Benz S550 and R-Class Blue Tec, although the price tag and maintenance costs are higher than the Town Car,” he says. “Everybody loves the S550 but I am getting mixed remarks and reactions about the R-Class; most of my clients love it, but a few of them still prefer Lincoln. I think people will eventually adapt to the change.”
