Vince Wolfington says he has had many inspiring predecessors in the limousine business. “Harold Berkman, George Jacobs and others got the industry to think. They’re a source of inspiration to us all.”
He believes that several conditions “have made this a very difficult industry to work in,” saying that all industries need to have standards in the financial community “so the financial community can measure performance. We need an image of a preposterous industry,”
He says the world of travel and tourism needs to take the limousine industry seriously. “The chauffeured industry never had a seat at the table. We want it to be a respectable niche market.”
But now the industry finally has a seat at the table. “I’ve been involved with the World Travel Council since its inception. Being named chairman was a big coup,” he says.
As for Carey International’s contributions, Wolfington says, “Carey has contributed to professional operators. We let banks know you could make good business in the industry. Everyone in the industry has benefited. From the customer’s point of view, we’re professional. No gypsy operators.” He adds, “We were the first to embrace it industry-wide that everyone who drives for Carey needs chauffeur accreditation annually.”
According to Wolfington, Carey “spells out standards for service and conduct” in its national and international operations.
“Carey was able to market its brand name and create awareness that there are professionals in this service industry. We set the standards that others followed.”
