LCT VIDEO: The Long View With Dawson Rutter

Posted on December 7, 2009 by LCT Staff - Also by this author

BOSTON — Welcome to Dawson Rutter’s distinguished city — or at least its streets where his limousines have glided about for more than a quarter century. The former Boston cab driver turned chauffeur turned entrepreneur, owner, and CEO now presides over Commonwealth Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation — a diverse global company with 180 company-owned black vehicles and 300 employees in Boston and New York.

A predominantly corporate client base reaching the heights of financial and business success sustain Commonwealth, which saw 44% compounded annual growth from 1998 through the economic peak of 2007, when revenues reach $47.6 million.

While those revenues may bottom out at $35 million this year, not even the deepest recession in decades has knocked the industry leader from his perch built on savvy technology, safety, and an attention to customer detail.

Come join LCT Magazine in its first ever video where we talk to Rutter about the challenges facing America’s most profitable and vibrant transportation industry — and what operators can expect in the coming decade.

Martin Romjue, editor of LCT Magazine, spoke to Rutter in October in the third-floor office of his Boston headquarters overlooking a vehicle lot lined with mid-size hybrid sedans, Lincoln Town Cars, SUVs, vans, mini-buses, and of course the vehicles that put him on the path to success: the stretch limousine.
