The Largest Operators Across America

Posted on July 1, 2001 by LCT Staff - Also by this author

This year, the LCT staff decided to include a section focusing on the largest ground transportation operator in each state, with an emphasis on luxury vehicles. For this purpose, the term ?largest? reflects the operator?s total fleet size and does not include any revenue numbers.

Our criteria for determining the largest ground transportation operator in each state took into account the total vehicles in the operator?s fleet. This includes limousines, sedans, vans, buses, motorcoaches and all specialty vehicles. We used a variety of sources and methods to determine and verify these results, including contacting the state DOTs, PUCs, Public Service Commission, Department of Airports and various limousine associations.

Within this listing, we also have included a few brief profiles of operators. They shared some of the challenges that they face, whether that is hiring and retaining top-quality chauffeurs, or implementing an employee training program that has brought them positive results. One operator explained what it was like getting started in a small state. Another operator informed us how she puts wary potential customers at ease by encouraging them to view her vehicles. Throughout all the conversations, we found some savvy operators tackling challenges and aiming to provide excellent service.
