Last year I received a letter from the operator of a small chauffeured transportation company. I’m paraphrasing, but the writer essentially took exception to our reporting on the largest fleets in North America and asked why LCT didn’t single out the top Smallest Companies.
I had to chuckle but I do understand what he really meant. I believe his point was that bigger isn’t always better and that we shouldn’t forget about the small guys. For the record, LCT makes no claim in our reporting on fleet size that bigger is better. But we do contend that success, along with industry experience, are factors that help determine the size of a livery service.
If we can check our egos at the door, we will find that the principals of these largest fleets have compelling stories and can be counted on to provide useful insights into the ever-changing, ever-volatile world we call the chauffeured transportation industry.
We certainly don’t mean to alienate the hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of great operators that choose to keep smaller fleets.
Also, consider that our industry has about a 30% annual turnover rate. For us at LCT that means that one-third of our subscribers leave the business each year and are replaced by new faces. Introducing them to this group of seasoned pros is an integral part of the educational process we take pride in.
LCT has been tracking the 50 largest livery and limousine fleets for the past 15 years. This year, we’ve formally expanded the listing to cover the Top 75 to showcase more companies – including some rising stars.
Hopefully we’ll soon bring you the Top 100. Our editorial staff spent the past month on this immense project. In an effort to bring you a credible and accurate report on fleet sizes, LCT verified many fleet numbers with the operators’ respective insurance companies.
Most of you cannot imagine the work that goes into gathering and auditing the information presented in this list – all in the name of accurate reporting.
