ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. ― No other single-day sporting event is bigger for limousine operators than the annual Super Bowl. This year’s Super Bowl XLVIII will be a supreme challenge because it is being held on Feb. 2 in the middle of winter at the outdoor MetLife Stadium located in the heavily congested New Jersey-New York metropolitan region.

Anticipating operator interest and questions about working the Super Bowl, a seasoned panel of large fleet operators with Super Bowl transportation experience participated in a panel discussion Tuesday at LCT Show East. They offered firsthand insights into the logistic and business side of the game.

Moderated by LCT Magazine contributing writer and New Jersey limo operator Linda Jagiela, the panel included Jeff Greene (Greene Classic Limousines of Atlanta), Dave Shaw (Olympus Limousines of Tampa), George Jacobs (Windy City Limousines & Bus of Chicago), and Mark Hayden (Metro Cars of Detroit).

Drawing on experiences with Bowl games and other sporting events, the panelists  cautioned operators to establish special set minimum hours per booking to cover additional costs during the event, and advised them to make sure they establish strict cancellation policies and  to get paid up front.

In addition, panelists all agreed it is important to alert regular customer and accounts regarding any special policies, prices and minimum hours required during Super Bowl week, to ensure good customer relations. The panel also advised operators to make sure drivers have all necessary permits — especially parking — and  are kept up-to-date on revised traffic patterns and special game-day regulations.

The weather? Being the first outdoor cold weather Super Bowl, the expectation of snow or ice is a possibility, but that’s a whole different issue that planers will have to figure out if it turns out to be “Snow Bowl.”
