Mirroring recent steps taken in the New York State Senate to eliminate sales tax on limousine services, Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak, D-143rd District, introduced Bill A7724 in the State Assembly. The Bill will be co-sponsored by State Assemblyman Robin Schimminger, D-140th District.
Senate Bill S4920, which was introduced by Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th District, passed the Senate Investigations and Government Operations last week and is now moving into Finance Committee. Grisanti is a co-sponsor of the bill with Sen. Martin J. Golden, R-22nd District, also the Assistant Senate Majority Whip.
New York operators are encouraged to show the same support for the Assembly bill as they did for the Senate bill by communicating to Assembly members how the sales tax has impacted their business. The sales tax varies depending on separate county add-ons. In New York City, for example, the sales tax is 8.85%.
A petition has been set up for Assembly Bill A7724 to also make it easier for the industry to send the message of repeal to Albany. The petition to repeal the sales tax is up and running. It was arranged so all the members of the Ways and Means Committee in the Assembly will receive an e-mail every time someone signs the petition.
ALBANY, N.Y. — In a show of deepening support for the repeal of the limo sales tax in New York, Assemblyman Dennis H. Gabryszak, D-143rd District, will be introducing the same exact bill as S4920 by Sen. Mark Grisanti. A bill number has not been assigned as of today, but is expected tomorrow and the story will be updated once the new bill number is issued.
Gabryszak is introducing this bill to the Assembly, and the bill will be co-sponsored by veteran New York state Assemblyman Robin Schimminger, D-140th District. The bill should be introduced within the next few days. Both Gabryszak and Schimminger are Democrats, which hold the majority in the Assembly.
This bill gives the repeal its next step needed to move closer to becoming a law.
David Bastian of Towne Livery and a member of the Limousine Bus Taxi Operators of Upstate New York applauds the move and urges operators to call their local Assemblyman and Senators to show their support for the repeal.
“We are at a very critical point right now,” says Bastian. “It is very vital for New York state limousine operators to get on the phone today and contact their local Assemblyman and Senators, and share with these people how the sales tax has impacted their business. Let them know why this is important for it to be repealed.”
