UPDATE: Fiery Limousine Was Overloaded

Posted on May 6, 2013

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- The limousine that caught fire late Saturday, killing five nurses on their way to a bridal shower in Foster City, was carrying one passenger more than it was allowed to under state regulations, authorities said Monday.

The 1999 Lincoln Town Car stretch limo is allowed to hold only eight passengers under rules set by the California Public Utilities Commission, said Cmdr. Mike Maskarich of the California Highway Patrol. There were nine women aboard when the limo burst into flames westbound on the San Mateo Bridge near Foster City.
