Maryland Operator Ends Wedding Service To Avoid Same-Sex Couples

Posted on January 9, 2013

CHICAGO — Chicago Tribune has reported that Discover Annapolis Tours, based in Annapolis, Md. and known for its old-fashioned trolleys, will abandon the wedding market in order to avoid serving same-sex couples.

Matt Grubbs, owner of Discover Annapolis Tours, told the Tribune he decided to forgo $50,000 in annual revenue from the wedding industry instead of “compromising his Christian convictions when same-sex marriages become legal in Maryland in less than a week.”

Wedding vendors elsewhere who refused to accommodate same-sex couples have faced discrimination lawsuits — and lost. Legal experts said Discover Annapolis Tours sidesteps legal trouble by avoiding all weddings.
