Bus Crash Prompts Motorcoach Operator To Consider Seat Belts

Posted on January 9, 2013

TORONTO, Ontario — Mike Cassidy, owner of Dieppe, New Brunswick-based Maritime Bus, says he may install seat belts in his buses after one of his buses rolled over and injured several passengers at the end of December, according to CBC News. The accident occurred when a gust of wind blew the bus off the road, the report says.

Maritime Bus operators in the Canadian Maritimes region, which consists of three Eastern Canadian provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Cassidy believes that seat belts could prevent some injuries during bus crashes, but expressed concern that “if there was a fire, for example, and you had seat belts on and couldn’t get out of your seat belt.”
