Niagara Classic Drives Canada’s Olympic Hope

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ontario  — With the 2012 Summer Olympic Games slated to start in London next month, Niagara Classic Transport is providing transportation service for the Royal Bank of Canada to help cheer on the Canadian Olympic athletes all across the country. The campaign, called “Hometown Champions,” is sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada and is a true grassroots campaign, relying solely on social media to promote it.

David Mole, president of Niagara Classic, told LCT that he’s got four authentic London cabs traveling across Canada, three in service and one as a back-up, as part of the campaign.

“The whole purpose of the campaign is to cheer on and support our Olympic athletes,” Mole said. “The campaign is organic and the schedules are really aggressive, with our cars traveling to new places, bouncing from city to city.”

Because a third party selected the drivers, Niagara Classic put them through a crash course version of the company’s training program that included on-site, in-class training and on-the-road training.  ‘They read our driver’s manual, received intense and compartmentalized training on driving the vehicles as well as basic mechanical skills, a course on fluids, etc.” Mole said. The drivers all have extensive travel experience.

Niagara Classic Transport got involved with the RBC’s Hometown Champions campaign through its contacts in the film and television industry. “The modus operandi of our company is building good relationships,” Mole said. “This event came directly from our relationships in the film and TV world. When the person hired to launch RBC’s campaign had difficulty finding vehicles, he asked around and eventually our names came up. We’re very happy and excited to help cheer on our athletes, and [our involved in the campaign] has already opened new doors for our company.”

In September 2011, Niagara Classic Transport lent several London cabs and a double-decker bus to the set of Total Recall¸ a remake of the 1990 science fiction blockbuster of the same name.

Niagara Classic also received delivery of a new 38-passenger 2012 F-650 limo bus from Tiffany Coachworks. “We renewed our fleet recently and flipped our 2008 Tiffany limo bus to acquire the new 2012 model, and we had a team pick it up from California and drive it back to Niagara in two days and five hours,” Mole said. “It’s definitely going to be the flagship bus in our fleet.”
